Operated by the Tatts Group, Powerball is a popular lottery in Australia.
The largest Powerball jackpot till date is AU$107million. One of the things that set Powerball apart is that unlike many other lotteries, most jackpot wins are not shared by multiple winners.
Powerball AU results are announced every Thursday at 8.30 PM AEST. When the assured first division prize is at least $15million, draws are broadcasted on national television and uploaded to YouTube.
In 2013, the game’s format was changed. In a draw, seven numbers are drawn from a guess range of 1-35, and an additional Powerball number is selected from a pool of 20 numbers. To win the jackpot, a player must match all seven numbers plus the jackpot number.
There are several differences between the Australian Powerball and American Powerball.
Prizes won by Australian Powerball winners are tax-free. American Powerball winners, on the other hand, have to pay federal and state taxes on their winning amounts. While American Powerball winners receive annuities, Australian Powerball winners are paid a lump sum amount.
There are nine prize divisions. To win a prize, a player has to match at least two numbers plus the Powerball number.
